Anesthesia & Facility Services
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons are uniquely qualified to provide excellent local pain control for their patients.
However, situations arise that require the availability of sedation and anesthesia under supervision to manage and complete patient care. These conditions may include:
- Medically Compromised Patients
- Handicapped Patients
- Severe Anxiety
- Difficulty in obtaining local anesthesia
- Long surgical & dental procedures
- Strict sterile procedures
Scope of Anesthesia
Local Anesthesia is the removal of painful sensations, excluding pressure and vibration. For example, the removal of an impacted wisdom tooth involves many of these sensations. Supplementing local anesthesia with nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, provides a relaxing sensation much like having a cocktail. The addition of intravenous sedation removes painful sensation, including lack of recall and unawareness of the procedure, while allowing the patient to breathe normally. This differs from a general anesthetic, where breathing and reflexes are controlled by the anesthetist. A true general anesthetic is induced thru an IV and maintained via an anesthetic gas delivered by a breathing tube. This type of anesthesia is extremely safe by properly maintaining the breathing passages, and can only be administered by an anesthesiologist in a hospital or outpatient surgical facility.
Our Anesthesia Team
Due to his extensive anesthesia training and fellowship, Dr. Sultan is capable of providing all levels of anesthesia care to his patients. His support staff include surgical technologists, nurses and assistants who have taken advanced training in anesthesia monitoring and emergency care.
Every patient, based on their age and medical condition, are assessed according to their risk level for anesthesia. Coupled with the complexity of the procedure, certain patients will be managed by our team of Board Certified MD Anesthesiologists, Drs. Scott Snyder and Richard Kushnick. Please feel free to ask for their credentials prior to your treatment.
As in any JCAHO facility, we provide the same level of care in our office as that in any Ambulatory Surgery Facility or Outpatient Hospital Suite!
Dental Rehabilitation Under Anesthesia
Occasionally, patients will request a deeper level of anesthesia for completion of all their dental needs. Our facility is unique in that it can accommodate not only surgical treatment, but all levels of dental care under full general anesthesia. In coordination with those dentists specifically trained and credentialed, Eastside Surgical Services can coordinate all necessary services “under one roof”.
Please inquire with our Treatment Coordinator or have your dentist contact our facility.
