Chins, Cheeks & Facial Implants

Chin Surgery (Genioplasty)

Patients that present with abnormal chin positions, for example:

  • Excessively long or pronounced chin
  • Deficient, short or pointed chin
  • Asymmetric chin position

may benefit from surgery to reposition or recontour the bone in order to improve facial profile and lip posture. In many cases, the chin itself can be repositioned in all dimensions.  This is done thru a small incision on the inside of the lower lip.

These procedures are done as an outpatient in our office based surgery facility, Eastside Surgical Services with sedation or general anesthesia.

The key to achieving esthetic balance is to correct the cause of the problem.  If your chin position problem is associated with a problem with the way your teeth come together (malocclusion), there may be an associated skeletal jaw deformity.  In this case, you may benefit from orthognathic surgery. Please refer to this section for a more involved discussion on this topic.

Lower Jaw Implant

These implants most commonly are manufactured from silicone or porous plastic. We prefer the use of the plastic implants as they are more stable and result in less complications. Typically, the procedure is performed via small incisions on the inside of the upper lip. The implants are stabilized with small titanium screws. Surgery is performed as an outpatient under sedation in our JCAHO Office Based Surgery Facility.
