Use a Soft Bristle Brush
Did you know that if you use a toothbrush that has too hard of bristles that you can cause more harm than good? Specifically, hard bristled brushes can cut open your gums and even scratch your teeth. To make sure that your implants don’t get scratched or damaged, make sure that you are using either a soft or extra-soft bristled toothbrush.
Specialized Toothbrush
To help you reach every part of your dental implant, you can invest in a small, specialized toothbrush that is designed to reach the lower part of your implant, near your gums. Because they can reach into even the smallest spaces on and around your implants, it will ensure that you don’t get any cavities.
Ask About Whitening
Most types of over-the-counter whitening toothpaste will be okay for you to use on your dental implants. However, if the toothpaste contains too much hydrogen peroxide or bleach, it could weaken your implant and cause it to chip or become loose. As a rule of thumb, make sure you ask Dr. Leslie Sultan about what type of toothpaste you can use.
It’s fairly easy to take care of your dental implants— especially if you know how to properly brush them. To learn more about how you can take care of your implants or to schedule an appointment, contact Dr. Leslie H. Sultan today!
